Noise Exposure Calculator
Calculate daily and weekly noise exposure (LEP,d and LEP,w) against the legal limits under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 (SI 2005/1643). All formulas sourced from HSE noise-exp-calc.xlsx V5-2.

LAeq is the equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level during the task. Use measured values or HSE reference noise levels where available.

LCeq is the C-weighted average level — not the peak (LCpeak). LCpeak is typically 20 dB or more higher. Enter LCeq here. The +4 dB real-world correction is applied automatically (HSE mandatory).
Weekly averaging is appropriate where daily exposure on one or two days is at least 5 dB higher than other days, or where the working week has three or fewer noise- exposed days (SI 2005/1643, guidance).

This calculator is provided for guidance only. Results are based on formulas from HSE noise-exp-calc.xlsx V5-2 (August 2025). The calculator is not a substitute for a formal noise assessment carried out by a competent person. Employers must assess and control noise exposure under SI 2005/1643.
