Finding what isn't there
The hardest thing to spot in a RAMS is what's missing. A method statement that never mentions the overhead line reads the same as one where the line was considered. Because every RAMS is checked against your pack, a hazard it leaves out is reported as missing, with the page of the pack that names it.
What a finding looks like
Each finding says whether a passage is missing, weak or in conflict with a requirement, how serious it is, and which page of the RAMS and of the pack it rests on. You can check it against the document straight away and dismiss the ones you disagree with.
Ramsgen doesn't approve, reject or sign a document. Whether a RAMS is accepted is your decision.
6.3 Personal protective equipment. All operatives shall wear hi-vis, safety footwear and helmet within the working area.
Operatives cutting kerbs shall wear disposable FFP2 masks and eye protection. Water suppression to be used where practicable.
6.4 Emergency arrangements. In the event of an incident the supervisor will contact the site office.
Cutting kerb generates respirable crystalline silica. FFP2 has an assigned protection factor of 10; this task needs 20. And “where practicable” leaves the water to the operative on the day.
The project requires the emergency plan to name the nearest trauma unit and the route to it. The clause names neither.
